A slogan invented by a local marketing team in Australia in 1999 now closes almost every ad the company runs worldwide.
LG ads span 27 years, 8 named agencies and 5 flagship global campaigns, from a Times Square LED debut in 2003 to AI-generated songs in 2025.
Most galleries stack the images and stop there. This one credits each campaign with its year, agency and market, then breaks down the design decisions holding the work together.
What is covered below:
- Campaign-by-campaign breakdown, with agencies and measured results
- Layout, palette and typeface analysis of the print work
- Why the TV spots follow completely different rules
- Six takeaways you can apply to your own layouts
LG advertising spans 27 years, 8 named agencies and 5 flagship global campaigns, from the Australian-coined “Life’s Good” line in 1999 to the AI-powered Radio Optimism platform launched in June 2025.
The work runs on one repeated device: optimism stated plainly, product held back until the final seconds.
This page covers LG’s major campaigns grouped by name, with the agency, year and market behind each one, plus the layout, palette and type decisions that hold the whole system together.
LG Advertising at a Glance
LG Electronics has advertised under the LG name since 1995, working mainly with in-house agency HS Ad and brand consultancy Wolff Olins. Its best-known campaigns are So Real It’s Scary, Man From the Future and Optimism Your Feed. The visual signature combines Active Red, a smiling face logo and wide white space.
| Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
| First major campaign | “Life’s Good,” Australia, 1999 (global rollout 2004) |
| Lead agencies | HS Ad (1984 to present), Wolff Olins (2023), SuperHeroes Amsterdam (2012), TBWAChiatDay NY (2024) |
| Best-known taglines | “Digitally Yours” (1999 to 2004), “Life’s Good” (2004 to present) |
| Primary media | Print, TV, digital out of home, YouTube, TikTok |
| Awards | Cannes Lions silver, outdoor, 2003 (HS Ad); Red Dot Design Awards, 2023 |
| Visual signature | Active Red, face logo, LG EI typeface, generous negative space |
| Measurable result | Interbrand rank 97, brand value USD 6.5 billion (2024), up 38.7 percent year over year |
LG returned to Interbrand’s top 100 in October 2024 after an absence dating back to 2007. Brand value more than doubled from USD 3.1 billion in 2022.
Which LG Ad Campaigns Are the Most Famous?
Five LG campaigns account for most of the brand’s creative recognition: So Real It’s Scary (2012), Man From the Future (2016), the Life’s Good brand reinvent (2023), Optimism Your Feed (2024) and Radio Optimism (2025). Each ran globally. Three came from outside the in-house agency.
So Real It’s Scary (2012 to 2013)

LG Electronics Nederland and Amsterdam agency SuperHeroes built this campaign around nine interconnected IPS monitors installed as an elevator floor. Riders watched the floor appear to collapse. Hidden cameras caught the reactions.
The film hit 10 million YouTube views in one week and was picked up by Good Morning America, the Today Show, ITV and VRT.
Creative directors Rogier Vijverberg and Rene Klinkhamer worked with film director Jasper Bazuin and art director Silje Lian. Two sequels followed: the Meteor Prank and the Toilet Prank.
The whole thing carries almost no graphic design. That is the point. No logo appears until the final card, and the product demonstration is the ad.
Man From the Future (2016)

LG’s first Super Bowl commercial. It aired during Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016, and promoted the LG SIGNATURE OLED TV.
Ridley Scott executive produced through RSA Films. His son Jake Scott directed. Liam Neeson starred opposite his own son, Micheal Neeson, playing his younger self.
Palette: near-black backgrounds, cold blue-white key light, single warm accent. The choice serves the product claim directly, since OLED sells on perfect blacks and contrast between light and dark values.
Engadget called the spot cheesy sci-fi. Fair. The craft is real, the writing is not.
Life’s Good Brand Reinvent (2023 to present)
Wolff Olins rebuilt LG’s visual identity system for the April 12, 2023 launch.
What changed:
- Logo: depth, shading and gradient stripped out; flat mark on Active Red
- Motion: eight scripted behaviors including nodding, spinning, scrolling and winking
- Type: a custom face, LG EI, built on “Emotionally Intelligent Design”
- Characters: Joy and Rider, illustrated by South Korean artist Jungmin
The campaign launched August 22, 2023 with digital out of home takeovers at Burj Khalifa, Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City, Times Square, London and Seoul.
Optimism Your Feed (2024)

TBWAChiatDay New York created this one. Hill and Knowlton handled PR, Viral Nation ran influencer, 1stAveMachine produced.
The idea: a playlist of 20 plus short-form videos that users could engage with to push more positive content into their own algorithm.
A Dynata survey commissioned by LG across 11 markets found 45 percent of respondents saw an equal or greater share of negative content in their feeds than positive.
Results: over 1.8 billion social views, and GWI research found 78 percent of people felt more optimistic after exposure to the campaign.
Radio Optimism (2025)

Launched June 24, 2025. Users wrote a message to someone they loved, picked a genre and a mood, and the platform generated an original AI song.
More than 700,000 personalized songs were made, shared over 1.5 million times, across six languages.
The Focaldata survey behind the brief covered 5,000 people aged 18 to 45 in the US, UK, Australia, India and Canada. Nearly 9 in 10 linked meaningful connection to an optimistic outlook.
LG Regional Print Ads (2008 to 2021)
LG’s print work sits mostly with local agency partners, not the global network. Y and R produced the Powerful series in the UAE in April 2008 and the Wedding and Circus executions in Brazil in November 2011.
TBWA Israel ran a long battery life print campaign in December 2014. The and Partnership handled Light Up Your World in the UK in March 2021.
The sharpest media buy of the lot came from M and C Saatchi Sweden, which placed an ad for LG’s curved OLED TV on the 4mm spine of Lyd og Bilde magazine, matching the panel’s depth exactly.
How Do LG Print Ads Work Visually?
LG print ads follow a consistent formula: one product silhouette, one short headline, two colors plus black, logo bottom right. Copy blocks sit below the optical center. The typeface has changed three times since 2008, but the layout logic has not.
The pages are built on a simple three-column or four-column structure. Product occupies the upper two thirds, headline drops beneath, legal copy compresses to the bottom margin. Anyone who has worked with column-based layout structures will recognize the setup instantly.
Palette: LG’s slogan lockup ships in exactly three colorways. Active Red for digital, black for premium and editorial contexts, white over gradients and photography.
That restriction does most of the work. A tightly limited set of brand colors keeps the pages recognizable across markets that otherwise share nothing.
Type: Bryant became LG’s corporate typeface in 2008. In 2013 the Dutch studio Total Design built a custom face called LG Smart. Wolff Olins replaced it with LG EI in 2023.
All three are geometric sans-serif letterforms with open apertures, set at a single weight in headlines. LG almost never mixes weights on a page.
Space: appliance ads in particular run huge empty margins. The refrigerator floats. Nothing crowds it.
The deliberate use of empty areas around the subject is what separates LG’s premium executions from its retail circular work, where the same product gets buried under price flags.
One thing I like about the post-2023 pages: the face logo does not fight the product for attention. It sits small, bottom right, and the empty area inside the mark itself reads as a face without needing to be scaled up.
How Do LG TV Commercials Differ From Its Print Ads?
LG TV commercials delay the product. Print ads lead with it. Man From the Future holds the OLED TV back for roughly 50 of its 60 seconds. Print gives you the silhouette in the first half second. The two formats share a palette and a typeface, nothing else.
Man From the Future (2016, RSA Films, dir. Jake Scott). Liam Neeson, a black deck of playing cards, a motorcycle chase through a maze of glass and light. The OLED panel appears at the end as the reveal.
So Real It’s Scary (2012, SuperHeroes Amsterdam, dir. Jasper Bazuin). Two minutes of hidden-camera footage in a Dutch office elevator. No music bed, no voiceover, no title card until the last five seconds.
Life’s Good brand film (2023, Wolff Olins). The animated face logo performs its eight behaviors against Active Red. Pure motion design work with no live action product shot.
LG also added a seven-note sound mnemonic in 2008, used to close commercials. It survived two identity overhauls and is still there.
Film gives LG room for narrative structure that a single page cannot hold. Print gets the product. Film gets the feeling. The brand books treat them as separate jobs, which is more honest than most brands manage.
How Has LG Advertising Evolved Since 1999?
LG advertising has moved through 4 distinct phases: product proof (1999 to 2004), lifestyle positioning (2004 to 2015), Hollywood-scale film (2016 to 2022) and platform-based optimism (2023 to present). The slogan stayed. Everything around it changed.
| Period | Strategic shift | Representative work |
|---|---|---|
| 1999 to 2004 | Technology proof, “Digitally Yours” | Times Square LED debut, December 17, 2003 |
| 2004 to 2015 | Life’s Good goes global, emotional positioning | Y and R print work, UAE and Brazil |
| 2016 to 2022 | Cinematic film, celebrity casting | Man From the Future, Super Bowl 50 |
| 2023 to present | Participation platforms, social-first | Optimism Your Feed, Radio Optimism |
The 2003 Times Square billboard is worth noting on its own. LG bought a 50-foot LED screen and put “Life’s Good” on it, competing for attention with Toyota, Budweiser, Pizza Hut and NBC.
The most recent phase is the sharpest strategic break. LG stopped making ads people watch and started making things people use.
Which Agencies Created LG Advertising?
HS Ad has handled LG advertising since 1984. Wolff Olins created the 2023 identity. SuperHeroes Amsterdam made So Real It’s Scary in 2012. TBWAChiatDay New York made Optimism Your Feed in 2024. Y and R, TBWA Israel and The and Partnership produced regional print work.
HS Ad was founded in Seoul in 1984 as LG Ad, tracing back to an LG advertising department formed in 1962. G2R acquired it in 2008 and the name changed. The agency now runs 36 offices and employs over 1,400 people.
HS Ad won Asia’s first Cannes Lions silver in the outdoor category in 2003. Its North American arm operates a 200-person office in New Jersey, led since 2022 by executive creative director John Long, previously ECD at Ogilvy New York.
Wolff Olins built the 2023 system, including the LG EI typeface, the eight logo animations and the shape library derived from LG product outlines. The consultancy also wrote the Brand Communication Guidelines distributed to LG employees globally.
Those guidelines are unusually strict about the slogan lockup, which is the right call. Consistent documented rules for brand usage are the only reason a system this decentralized holds together across 113 locations.
Nicklaus Deyring, HS Ad’s executive design director, leads the “We Are Life’s Good” internal branding program. That role did not exist before 2022, which tells you how much weight LG now puts on design leadership inside the agency.
What Can Designers Learn From LG Ads?
LG’s system offers 6 transferable decisions: restrict the palette, hold the product back in film, keep type to one weight, use motion as identity, place the logo small, and build campaigns people can join.
- Limit the brand palette to one signature color plus black and white
- Set headlines in a single weight of one geometric sans, never mix
- Hold the product reveal until the final seconds of any film longer than 30 seconds
- Give the logo a motion vocabulary, not just a static lockup
- Place the mark small and bottom right, and let the product own the frame
- Build the campaign as a platform people can participate in, not a message they watch
The palette lesson is the cheapest one to apply and the one most brands ignore. LG runs three colorways. Three.
Reduced, restrained layout approaches work here because the products are physically beautiful objects. If your product is not, this system will expose that fast.
How Do LG Ads Compare to Sony Ads?
LG and Sony sell overlapping products and advertise almost nothing alike.
Sony builds its advertising around single spectacular film ideas, executed once and remembered for years. LG builds systems that repeat across every market simultaneously, then measures engagement.
Sony’s print work leans on photographic craft and long copy. LG’s leans on product silhouette and a four-word headline. Look at Sony ads beside LG’s and the difference in copy-to-image ratio is immediate.
The tonal split matters more than the visual one. Sony sells mastery. LG sells optimism. Neither is a better strategy, but they demand completely different casting, palettes and copy registers.
Against the wider tech category, LG sits closer to consumer brands than to enterprise ones. Intel ads and Lenovo ads argue capability. LG argues mood, and has since 2004.
Samsung remains LG’s closest direct rival in market terms, and the comparison is unflattering for LG on awards. Samsung won 27 Cannes Lions in 2015 alone and took Creative Marketer of the Year in 2016. LG’s award record is thinner, which makes the Interbrand jump from USD 3.1 billion to USD 6.5 billion between 2022 and 2024 more interesting. The commercial result arrived without the trophies.
What Makes LG Advertising Work?
LG advertising works because the system is narrow enough to survive being handed to dozens of local teams.
Three colorways. One typeface at one weight. One slogan, unchanged since 2004. A logo that stays small and bottom right.
Those constraints let a print page made in Sao Paulo and a digital billboard in Dubai read as the same brand without either one being a translation of the other.
The optimism angle is the part most designers underrate. It gives every campaign a reason to exist beyond the product, which is why the recent work invites people in instead of talking at them.
The trade-off is real. Optimism as a fixed position leaves little room for edge, and the award record shows it.
LG Ads Examples

FAQ on LG Ads
What is LG’s advertising slogan today?
Life’s Good. It replaced “Digitally Yours” during the global rollout in 2004 and has not changed since.
LG signs off nearly every brand communication with it, in one of three approved colorways.
What typeface does LG use in its ads?
Three so far. Bryant became the corporate face in 2008, LG Smart followed in 2013 from Dutch studio Total Design, and LG EI arrived with the 2023 rebuild.
All three are geometric sans faces, which keeps the brand’s type system consistent across three decades.
What is LG Active Red?
Active Red is the lighter red introduced in April 2023, replacing the older burgundy button.
It carries the digital logo and the slogan lockup. Black handles premium and editorial contexts, white sits over gradients and photography.
Who are Joy and Rider in LG’s advertising?
Two illustrated characters introduced with the 2023 identity, drawn by South Korean illustrator Jungmin.
They exist to pull younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, toward a brand that had spent two decades talking mostly to homeowners.
Why did LG animate its logo?
To give the mark behavior across digital touchpoints. The 2023 system ships eight scripted motions, including nodding, spinning, scrolling and winking.
The reasoning behind adding movement to a static mark is simple: a face that reacts feels less corporate.
Does LG advertise on TikTok?
Yes. LG runs a dedicated global TikTok channel, @lgelifesgood, launched around the 2024 Optimism Your Feed campaign.
That campaign put more than 20 short-form videos into the feed and pulled over 1.8 billion social views.
Which markets get the biggest LG ad placements?
Five cities carry the flagship digital out of home buys: Dubai, London, New York, Ho Chi Minh City and Seoul.
The 2023 takeover included Burj Khalifa, Landmark 81 and LG’s own Times Square billboards.
Are LG’s global campaigns adapted for local markets?
Heavily. Global brand work comes from HS Ad and Wolff Olins, but print and film often go to regional shops.
Y and R handled the UAE and Brazil, TBWA covered Israel, The and Partnership took the UK.
How long does an LG global campaign usually run?
Roughly two to three months for the participation-based work.
Optimism Your Feed ran from May 29 to the end of July 2024. Radio Optimism launched June 24, 2025, and LG reported final results that September.
Does LG use AI in its advertising?
Yes, and not just as a talking point. Radio Optimism generated over 700,000 personalized AI songs across six languages in 2025.
Those tracks were listened to and shared more than 1.5 million times.
Conclusion
LG ads reward close reading more than most consumer electronics work. The restraint is the entire argument.
Active Red, one geometric sans, a face logo held small, and a copy block that never fights the product silhouette.
That discipline is why an OLED print advertisement from Sao Paulo and a digital out of home board in Seoul still read as one brand.
HS Ad has carried the account since 1984. Wolff Olins rebuilt the visual identity in 2023, and the commercial result followed, with Interbrand moving LG back into the global top 100 after a seventeen-year absence.
Steal the constraints, not the optimism. The colorway limit and the single-weight headline rule will sharpen almost any layout you are working on.
