The National Flag of the United States is frequently referred to as the American Flag or the U.S. flag. In 1958, the existing U.S. flag was designed by a High School Student of seventeen-year-old, Robert G. Heft, as his school project in Lancaster, Ohio, by modifying the existing U.S. flag design with the current design having 50 white stars and 13 horizontal stripes. Out of 1,500 design plans, his design was elected and adopted by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
