Volkswagen Inspired Navigation

Volkswagen Inspired Navigation

Author’s comment: “It’s always fun to get an email from a reader with a very specific request. In this case the request was for a tutorial based on the the car stereo style navigation bar used in Volkswagen’s website. Rather than reinventing the wheel, we’re going to work straight from an example file of the original.

This tutorial assumes that you know your way around Photoshop enough not to need too much hand-holding. You should know your way around the Layers palette and know how to add Layer Styles, use Custom Shapes and Clipping Masks without much explanation.”

Spray Paint Text

Author’s comment: “It was time I wrote more of a beginner aimed tutorial so here you go, this tutorial will teach you how to make this spray paint style text effect which really stands out and would make a great wallpaper. The inspiration for this one comes from an image by Aleks Maksimow which you can check out here. The techniques here are pretty simple so give it a go.”

Vibrant Photo Manipulation

Vibrant Photo Manipulation

Author’s comment: “Using vibrant colors is the best way to make an image stand out, although getting the right balance is not always easy. Here we learn how to use lots of vibrant color to create a slightly abstract photo manipulation using pencils and fruit. We will learn how to use the pen tool effectively and also some freehand brushing which looks good.”

Pop Art Inspired by Lichtenstein

Pop Art Inspired by Lichtenstein

Author’s comment: “If you are a fan of pop art then you’re probably already well acquainted with the work Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein became one of the leading pop artists of the sixties with his comic-strip paintings. Drowning Girl 1963, shown left, is one of his better known works and is a good example of the design features in his most famous pieces. Notice the thick lines, bold colors, and thought bubble. His work also often included boxed captions and words such as “WHAAM!”, commonly found in comic books.

Benday dots were Lichtenstein’s trademark. Benday dots are a printing process which combines two (or more) different small, coloured dots to create a third colour. Back in the day, pulp comic books used benday dots in primary colours to inexpensively create the secondary colours such as flesh tone.”

Style Tut for WarCraft Font

Style Tut for WarCraft Font

Author’s comment: “My first tutorial ever but I believe I have the format good. It might need a lightening layer of white at 5-25% opacity underneath the color balance to pretty much match the font side by side with an actual picture of the warcraft/world of warcraft title, but otherwise it should be alright. Its not perfect but it looks good enough, not some pieced together thing from the original by cutting and pasting but you can suit this for any needs.”

Make a Floating in Air USB Key Illustration

Make a Floating in Air USB Key Illustration

Author’s comment: “In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to illustrate a USB key floating in the air and reflecting on a surface. We’ll be adding numerous details that will make this illustration shine. Notice how the PSDTUTS name reflects off the floor in the illustration. These are the little details that add a degree of realism to your work.”

Laser-Cut Metal

Laser-Cut Metal

Author’s comment: “Ever wanted to be a professional thief? Cracking open safes, robbing banks? Not such a good idea, but why take the risk of getting caught if you can fake it? I’m going to teach you how to make a nice laser cut on a metal surface, with all the effects you get when you do it. To keep it realistic, I’m not going into creating the laser itself – In reality you can’t actually see the laser, so why bother making it?”

How to Digitally Paint an Abstract Face Portrait

How to Digitally Paint an Abstract Face Portrait

Author’s comment: “In this tutorial, we’ll be painting an abstract vision of a dreaming person. I will describe my progress of face painting a male character. Also, we will create a special custom brush for blending colors. I’ll show you how to paint advanced constructions by combining basic shapes. The final image is a bold man’s portrait of a head flying in the sky. All painting will be done by mouse. All you need is pure Photoshop!”
