I guess there was needed such a skin. My opinion is that YM9’s default skins look awful, or at least for my taste. This is the main reason for doing this skin. I hope you like it.
The program interface comes in two versions, one with some buttons a little bit red and the other one with a pinky-red and a little bit desaturated type of buttons.
In the screenshot you’ll find the pinky-red version.
Notice that the skin works only for Yahoo Messenger 9. I will make a version of this for YM8 in the following weeks.

I downloaded it but its saying that windows cud not recognize which programe created and cannot open it..help

I don’t understand how come Windows doesn’t recognize it. The archive’s extension is .rar. If you somehow saved it without an extension rename to darkside.rar or “something”.rar and then extract it. The extracted folder must be copied in C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\skins, click on the marble on top of your messenger window and select Darkside and “that’s all folks” :|

you have to edit every png or bmp and the .xml files too.

the files are in C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\skins\”skinName” and you can edit them with Photoshop (the png and bmp files) and a simple notepad for the xml files.

they changed the version of yahoo 9 beta and your theme dosen’t work the same. it shows pink color from their default s**t. check it out maybe you caould fix it. great skin keep up the good work.

also the status of someone is very hard to read in im chat window. and they added a feature to see in the right corner what someone is sayng like when someone comes online or offline and the text color is black very hard to read.

also it would be nice (4 me) is you had a basic black skin. i don’t understand vista’s black color they say it’s black but i see grey :P

I was using YM 8.1 but I downloaded YM 9, installed the skin in the proper folder and worked just fine. I hope you’re having Win XP.
About the rest check these out:
Notes:
- I couldn’t change the color of the highlighted button text (the green text on the red button) because the option can’t be found in any xml for that kind of button.
- I couldn’t change the status background color although there’s a .bmp file for that. Apparently, it doesn’t work. It’s better to leave it this way because otherwise you couldn’t have read the status… the same thing happens with the text in preferences which has a similar background.
- The skin isn’t larger than a normal YM9 skin and it doesn’t use a lot of resources. Don’t worry about this.

am zis sa inteleaga daca mai citeste careva cu aceiasi problema. da am win xp. am sters totul si l-am instalat din nou tot la fel imi arata cu alb-roz cum e screenshot. poate e versiunea din inainte ce ai instalat tu, acum a iesit de 29 alta http://www.ymessengerblog.com/blog/2007/10/29/new-yahoo-messenger-90-beta/
daca ai idee sa imi zici o chestie ca am cautat peste tot si nu gasesc daca dau la 8.1 skinul pe default ca la windows (io avand windowsul totul negru cu scris alb) de ce in fereastra de chat imi arata scrisul alb cu fundal alb. nu exista vre-o chestie sa pot lasa scrisul negru ca am inteles dupa alte site-uri la la yahoo mess nu se poate schimba culoarea la background. niste cretini. ms mult oricum super skin si il folosesc in continuare.

iau de la coada la cap din ce ai zis.
eu as fi vrut sa fac fereastra aici neagra si scrisul alb, dar se pare ca nu s-a putut si nici culoarea la bground nu am putut sa o schimb.
o sa fac un nou skin care sa mearga pe varianta asta scoasa pe 29 mai dupa 20 iunie. pana atunci am multe pe cap si timp aproape de zero. multumesc pt atentionare.

Firstly, you should try the new version of the skin which is for the new version of the Ym 9.0 Beta. Silly thing that Yahoo named it the same although there are some changes.
Look here. There are installation instructions there as well as the new version I was talking about earlier.
