Finding innovative furniture isn’t easy. Innovative chairs, coffee tables, sofas and beds are hard to find because it isn’t easy to design them.
It’s nice to see that designers keep coming with new and beautiful furniture that has a not only a practical use, but is also looking really good and improves your interior design.
I’ve made before an article about modern furniture structured in the same way as this one: Tables, Chairs, Sofas and Beds and had some interesting furniture examples.

Innovative coffee tables
Paint drip table
This innovative furniture piece is the “Paint or Die But Love Me” Table designed by John Nouanesing and it seems to be melting.
And if not melting, than not even solid in the first place, but rather a paint spill suspended in motion. It´s to bad we can´t order one, so far it’s only in the conceptual art stage.
Nook Coffee Table
The Nook Coffee Table was designed for a consumer who has limited living space and is need of a multifunctional piece of innovative furniture.
The designer was inspired by the idea of a bookshelf crash landing into a coffee table creating a “4th leg.” This juxtaposition of form and function provides consumers with the perfect balance of storage and table space
The six identical wooden elements interlock in an intriguing knot which gives this specific modern feel of the table.
The structure represents puzzle symmetry in its perfection − not only symmetry of the assembled structure, but also a total uniformity of its elements.
This table is the perfect accent piece for any living room, for individuals not afraid to express their own style. The interlocking principle of 1 × 6 involves only sliding movements, making the assembly process very fast. It can be assembled in two different set-ups with different heights.
The House of Cards Table is an awesome furniture design that addresses topics such as lightness and instability, but with sense of humor which is a mark of the work by Brazilian designer-architect Mauricio Arruda.
The idea of his latest innovative furniture design, apparently simple, has lived for years in his imagination until today! The game house of cards is part of most people’s imagination and its image is so familiar that it is impossible to believe that there is someone who would not identify it.
Part of the fables and children’s universe, a house of cards is light, unstable and falls apart with a puff of air. The piece plays with that image when proposing a sturdy table made of steel capable of supporting up to 250 kg tops.
Throughout the mid-20th century, the eastern desert of Southern California became a mecca for visionary modern architects. Since the 1920’s, designers and builders were drawn to the dramatic geographical surroundings of the Coachella Valley, inspiring a design aesthetic notable for its adaptive use of natural and manufactured resources.
Shaken, not stirred, the Parker evokes a lifestyle of simple elegance and informality that can be augmented with a wide array of custom colors. So go ahead, pour yourself a Tom Collins and dust off that old Frank Sinatra Album, ’cause just like Ole’ Blue Eyes, the Parker is here to stay. Isn’t this the coolest furniture example you could find?
There are many things that come in pairs, like socks we use on a daily basis; bedside tables always come in pairs too. Merry propose the use of a new kind of Socks: two bedside tables in beech wood with cone legs made of recycled plastic from the textile industry that works as exchangeable socks.
Socks are not just two bedside tables but they can be roommates according to your imagination, one of the socks may be scared while the other is speaking or is it that one is happy and the other one is sad.

Born out of an attempt at the impossible, the Affinity chair explores our relationship with light and space. When alone, the chair merges into the background becoming almost invisible as it cloaks itself in its environment.
However when approached, the chair wakes, becoming transparent, revealing hidden depths and creating an almost infinite space beneath.
As the sitter comes closer to the chair, the chair’s heart rate increases reminding us that even though it wants to escape, it is firmly and almost painfully stuck in front of us.
Upside Down
This chair is made of a (inverted) willow tree. The legs have been obtained by twisting and splinting its branches and letting it dry into the final shape.
The seat and back were naturally kept in line with the bole’s silhouette. This project had been put in practice jointly with the artist Bauke Fokkema.
The Octopus Chair is the first piece of the innovative furniture series that is the Animal Chair Collection, and it establishes a base and point of departure for the pieces to come.
Shellter Chair
Bouloum Lounge Chair
With its anthropomorphic form, the Bouloum was named after a childhood friend of its designer, Olivier Mourgue, who took the charismatic seat with him when he traveled… even going so far as photographing it in various situations and writing anecdotes.
As comfortable as it is provocative, one simply must experience the Bouloum to fully understand it.
But be warned… once experienced, you will simply have to have one of your own…. it is that comfortable. Playful and practical, Bouloum is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Chain Rocker
The “Chain Rocker” is a very distinctive rocking chair made of recycled bicycle chains and tires.
BRC Designs layered these reclaimed materials upon a steel support structure which is, itself, composed of 98% recycled steel. Each one has a decidedly heavy metal-esque look that would appeal to bikers and rockers alike.

Though technically a rocking chair, we think “rocking & rolling chair” might be a more appropriate moniker for this spacey concept.
If the “Rocking Wheel Chair” concept by student designer Mathias Koehler doesn’t bowl you over, we don’t know what will. Though this innovative furniture example looks like something that would be more at home in a cheesy, futuristic, over-the-top alien flick, we love the way the “rocking” functionality has been integrated with the overhead reading lamp.

Infinity Furniture Collection
Tangle Creations founder Richard X Zawitz, in partnership with Pierandrei Associati, Technodelta Srl of Milano, and Baci & Abbracci have joined together to co-produce and launch a unique line of sculpture-based furniture and an innovative lighting system based on Zawitz’s Infinity Art.
The LumBar Stool
Influenced by the alien landscapes of weather eroded rock formations. Especially “Mushroom rocks” a form in which the lower stone is carved away quicker than the top leaving a bulbous head stacked on top of a fragile stem.
I aimed to create a stool in which the user would be almost deifying gravity, being suspended above the floor on a tiny stem yet being fully supported. Plywood was the perfect material to use because the edge detail was a great way to create a contour and sediment look of my influential starting point.
It is constructed using 38 1″ layers of CNC cut ply board stacked on top of one another connected by one single 12mm steel bar located down the centre of the stool, which is simply tightened up by a nut and bolt system. Creating 1 solid and safe form to be used for seating.

Made of fiberglass over a steel frame, this innovative furniture example is ideal for a poolside or patio. We see the Disk Chair as the love child of an everyday spoon rest and the classic Panton chair. Ferlea, the manufacturer, confirms that we’re not too far off because the design is meant to look like a “spoon folded.”

The two sofas can accommodate three people with super-modern design and cultural philosophy. Souk Collection Carossa Pimp transport mimics traditional seat truck seen through the cities of Marrakech and Medina and to make your home a bit more humble and a Moroccan lifestyle.
Letto ZIP BED
Created by Italian outfit, Florida Furniture, the clever bunk is designed to let you skip folding the sheets, while leaving your sleeping area looking clean. How can that happen? By having a zip-up dress that covers the entire surface of the mattress, so when guests accidentally stumble in the room, they’ll have no idea it is inhabited by lazy people.
Each bed uses padded frames with a slightly rounded look for that modernist bedroom aesthetic. They use Emmecia fabrics throughout the whole construction, in your choice of white, gray or blue pallettes for the outer side.
Private Cloud Bed
This unique pod-like, egg-shaped bed was designed by the Lomme design platform and is part of their luxury bed line. This bed uses cutting edge technology to give the sleeper greater sound proof coverage and delivers as they called it “sound therapy” eliminating exterior disturbances bringing the owner an overall feeling of security and protection.

Here is a rather unique bed from Housefish Engineering. The Suspended Bed 2.0 is not only cool but well made from very sturdy materials. A machined aluminum platform and stainless steel tension cables keep the bed stable and free from movement. Available in bare aluminum, powdercoated in any custom color, or veneered in any type of wood.
